The summer holidays are nearly upon us and here in West Dorset there are many exciting and interesting events to visit while enjoying your Dorset family holiday

Jurassic Fields Family Friendly Music Festival 13/14 July
Jurassic Fields brings together not only some amazing top acts from around the country but will be showcasing the best music, comedy, food and entertainment the local area has to offer.
JURASSIC Fields Music Festival continues to catch the imagination of the public, and that is reflected in advance tickets sales for what is becoming undoubtedly one of the best value for money music events in the country.
Now in its fifth year, such is its success that visitors from all over the UK will be heading for Asker Meadows next month.
Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival 4 – 12 Aug

Bridport Carnival 18 Aug
Bridport Carnival is a must-see event and a highlight of the town's calendar!
The fun packed extravaganza includes a grand procession held on the third Saturday in August each year and features plenty of floats and colourful walking entries. The carnival procession starts at 7pm from West Road.
Other activities include a carnival quiz, darts and a family bingo. as well as the traditional Sunday evening torchlight parade from Bridport to West Bay, which creates a superb end to the celebrations with the awesome spectacle of 1,500 blazing torches being carried by families as they snake their way to the seaside for a celebration with live music and fireworks. The torchlight procession sets off at 9pm from South Street (torches will be on sale from 6:30pm outside the Town Hall).

Melplash Show 23 Aug
The Melplash Agricultural Society Show is one of the South West’s premier agricultural exhibitions and is held at The West Bay Show grounds, Bridport, Dorset on the last Thursday before the August Bank holiday. The show is packed full of exhibits including livestock, horses, homecrafts and horticulture. There are over 350 trade stands selling everything from locally produced food to tractors….and plenty in between!
The Great Dorset Steam Fair 23 -27 Aug
This unique event is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a record breaking 500 full size steam vehicles attending.
The show has something for everyone, whatever your interests! Maybe you are a collector, a steam fanatic, an exhibitor, a heavy horse fan, an avid
camper, a music fan or just on holiday in the South of England over the August Bank Holiday weekend and fancy an excursion to what is described as the most remarkable show on earth!
Dorset County Show 1 & 2 Sept
For over 175 years Dorchester Agricultural Society has celebrated agriculture and rural life within the county of Dorset. The first exhibition was held in 1840 and this has now developed in to the two day Dorset County Show which takes place on the first weekend in September.
The Show is continually developing and introducing new attractions such as the Shopping@theAvenue Marquee, Heavy Horse Village and the Dorset Artisan Craft Marquee.
Bridport Hat Festival 1 Sept
Bridport Hat Festival is a multi-day celebration of hats, a fundraiser for head-related charities and a giant summer-ending party for the town and its visitors – all run by volunteers. The most creative, quirky, stylish and inventive headwear combines with live music, multiple competitions, demonstrations, talks, displays, shows, a hat auction, games, hatted dogs (yes, hatted dogs) and much, much more, all ‘topped’ off by a HUGE mass hat-wearing photoshoot in Bucky Doo Square on ‘Haturday’. And all you need is a hat!
